The Blyb: a wonderful place to stay, eat and socialise

Over the past six months, a wonderful place to stay, eat and meet has been created in Gmund in collaboration with a team of close friends: the Blyb. We were able to be part of the project and support it with our expertise in interior design.

Together with the Blyb team, we created a unique design with a special selection of materials and a lot of love for the existing building, which does justice to this place in every detail.

What already exists should be utilised and selectively emphasised – that was the basis on which we started planning. Our remit included the furniture for the reception area, lounge bar, restaurant and library. We started with the challenge of creating a unique and inviting bar that blends seamlessly into the existing building. We used the existing striking round arch as a formative element for the bar counter and translated it into the fronts of the bar. The material and colour selection of deep brushed dark oak in combination with the plain green of the library walls runs consistently through the furniture design. A solid, hot-rolled stainless steel plate on the counter gives the entire bar a special touch.

What is special about the materials used is that it fulfils the hotel team’s wish to work largely with existing materials. We therefore used surplus material from previous EHAM projects for most of the furniture design in the Blyb. This material was put to the best possible use: upcycled into stylish furniture.

As part of the project, our team also worked on the cosy benches – made from light-coloured, soaped fir, they convey a positive and fresh atmosphere. Local wood was used here, bringing the furniture even closer to the place where it offers hotel guests an idyllic spot.

We also extensively refurbished many of the floors and brought back the simple beauty of the wooden floors. Over the past years and owners, many different layers have been glued, nailed and moulded onto the beautiful existing floor. These layers were removed in intensive manual labour – and it was worth it.

It was a pleasure to realise such a special project together with the team. A very special place has been created here that preserves the existing yet is progressively modern – and we think the Blyb is and will be a great addition to the catering and hotel industry around Lake Tegernsee for a long time to come.
